A cheesy take on the classic green bean casserole. This side dish is layered with creamy green beans, melty Swiss cheese, and crispy fried onions. The perfect side dish for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp onion flakes
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cans of green beans
  • 2 cups grated Swiss cheese (8-ounce block)
  • 1 cup crispy fried onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter.
  3. Then, add the flour, salt, black pepper, sugar, and onion. Mix well.
  4. Add the sour cream and mix thoroughly.
  5. Cook over medium heat until it becomes thick and bubbly.
  6. Fold in the green beans and stir until coated.
  7. Pour the green bean mixture into a greased 1.5-quart baking dish.
  8. Sprinkle the green bean mix with shredded Swiss cheese.
  9. Then top with the fried onions.
  10. Bake for 20 minutes.
  11. Once the cheese is melty, onions are crispy, and the ingredients are heated through, it’s done and ready to enjoy!

Notes

  • For a larger group, you can double this recipe and use a large baking dish. You will need to adjust the cook time accordingly.
