Ingredients for Bacon Wrapped Shrimp
Here’s what you’ll need for ingredients. It’s so easy to grab these few items, especially for a last-minute get-together.
Shrimp – raw, peeled, and deveined shrimp. Medium to large in size, learn more about shrimp sizes here. (If you buy frozen shrimp, thaw it out by running it under cold water for several minutes before assembling the kabobs.)
Bacon – regular bacon. Avoid thick-cut bacon because it will not cook thoroughly.
Barbecue sauce – we love to use our 2-ingredient barbecue sauce, but you can use your favorite.
Supplies
Here’s a list of the kitchen tools and supplies you’ll need.
- Shish kabob skewers
- Baking rack – you can find cool skewer racks.
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
- Basting brush
Skewers – we love these skewers by Cave Tools—they are stainless steel, dishwasher safe, easy to store, and have a food remover disc. Just be sure to let the skewers cool down for a few minutes before using the disc. (We also have a recipe for bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers that uses their jalapeno grill rack and coring tool.)
Parchment paper – we use pre-cut parchment paper baking sheets to line the baking sheet. Not required, of course, but makes for easy cleanup.
How to Make Bacon Wrapped Shrimp Skewers in the Oven
Here’s how to make bacon-wrapped shrimp kabobs in the oven.
Step 1 | PREHEAT OVEN TO 425°F
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. (If your oven has a convection setting, use it for added crispiness.)
Step 2 | PREPARE BAKING SHEET
Prepare your pan by first lining it with parchment paper (this makes clean-up so much easier). Then, place a baking rack on top of the parchment paper—you’ll want something to hold the bacon out of the grease. Finally, coat with baking spray or brush with oil to prevent the bacon from sticking to the rack.
Step 3 | CUT BACON SLICES
With a sharp knife, cut the bacon slices into thirds.
Step 4 | WRAP & SKEWER SHRIMP
Take each piece of shrimp and wrap it with 1/3 slice of bacon. Don’t overlap the bacon very much—this could prevent it from getting done and crispy.
Step 5 | PLACE SKEWERS ON BAKING RACK
Thread five pieces of bacon-wrapped shrimp on each skewer. Line the prepared skewers on the baking rack.
Step 6 | ROAST ONE SIDE FOR 10 MiNUTES
Cook the skewers in the oven for 10 minutes on the first side.
Step 7 | BRUSH WITH BBQ SAUCE
Remove from the oven. Then brush each skewer with barbecue sauce. You can use your favorite sauce or try our family’s easy barbecue sauce recipe.
Step 8 | FLIP & COAT THE OTHER SIDE
Using a kitchen tong or oven mitt (so you don’t burn yourself), flip the kabobs and coat the other sides with barbecue sauce.
Step 9 | ROAST FOR ANOTHER 10 Minutes
Continue cooking for another 10 minutes or until you reach desired doneness.
Note: because each brand and type of bacon will be of different thicknesses and each oven will cook slightly differently, you may want to turn the kabobs again, coat them with barbecue sauce, and cook for an additional 5 minutes or so.
Step 10 | SERVE & ENJOY
Let them cool for just a few minutes. Serve and enjoy!
They’re so good, we promise. You can easily change the flavor with different barbecue sauces. Or let your guests choose and serve them with various dipping sauces.
